HOW DOES CHIROPRACTIC WORK?

As a natural and complementary healthcare solution, chiropractic works first to understand the cause and source of your complaint.
Chiropractic treatment involves safe, gentle and specific manipulation of the spine and other areas of your body to unlock joints that are not moving correctly, to ensure greater and improved movement and to relieve pain.
Allowing your body to use its own healing ability correctly and effectively. Creating healthy balance for a physically fit future.

Chiropractors are doctors of chiropractic. Having trained for six years they are required to continue to update their knowledge and attend vital chiropractic seminars. To practice legally as a chiropractor in South Africa, chiropractors must be registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa. The Chiropractic Association of South Africa (CASA) is the professional body representing over 90% of registered chiropractors in South Africa.
While chiropractic is a drug free healing alternative for neuro muscular skeletal complaints, your doctor of chiropractic is trained to complement the work of other medical specialists. And will recommend consultation with the appropriate specialist if he or she considers it necessary and in the best interests of the patient.

WHO IS YOUR CHIROPRACTOR?

Chiropractor

A visit to your chiropractor is a very similar experience to visiting your GP or other medical specialist. Remember that he or she is a healthcare professional. The difference is that the process and treatment of your complaint is always done from a holistic, drug free perspective.
For your chiropractor to understand your complaint and eventually treat it, it is first important that he or she conducts a full physical examination. This includes appropriate orthopaedic and neurological tests whereby muscle strength, nerve function and joint function, as well as body balance and alignment are determined. Your chiropractor will then be in a position to establish problem areas and identify the source of the complaint.
Once your chiropractor has diagnosed the problem, he or she will recommend a treatment plan. This treatment could be in the form of only a single visit - a spinal or joint adjustment with fairly quick relief. The condition, however, may require further, continued care necessitating several treatments to stabilise the problem. Treatment will most likely include manipulation, soft tissue therapies and other techniques such as heat, ice, ultrasound, massage and exercise to enhance results.
Chiropractic is not an invasive therapy, however, patients are often required to remove certain items of clothing to enable the chiropractor to examine and treat the condition appropriately. Gowns are available for you to wear for the examination and treatment.
